The Problem

Trafford Housing Trust in Manchester manages 12 high rise blocks ranging from six to 22 storeys. All are fitted with fully reversible windows and the client wanted to undertake pre-planned preventative maintenance.

Project Overview

Mila Window and Door Maintenance’s expertise in working at height was a significant benefit for the client. Their highly trained and fully equipped team can work safely as high as 30 storeys and can also recommend the most appropriate and cost effective solution for each building.

Their specialist knowledge and equipment enabled them to carry out repairs and maintenance on the particular type of framing system and hardware combination.

Nature of the works

For the specific requirements of this project, the team sourced a specialist device for working on fully reversible windows from inside each flat rather than having to fix mast climbers or hanging cradles to each external elevation on the outside.

Using the ‘Eazi-Lifter’ window hoist, Mila Maintenance engineers worked effectively from inside each flat, safely anchoring the opening sash so that it could be brought inside for any necessary repair or maintenance actions to be carried out.

Their expertise provided Trafford Housing with significant savings on the contract.

Trafford Housing is half way through a two year contract to carry out preventative maintenance on all the fully reversible windows in its housing stock to ensure that they are operating safely and effectively. Work has been completed on more than 1400 flats during 2009/10 with a similar number to be completed in 2010/11.
